While trailer maintenance is generally pretty simple, dump trailers can sometimes be the exception. These models tend to have the most equipment and moving parts of any model on the market and, as a result, often require the most care and attention. To learn how to successfully care for your dump trailer to ensure it lasts a lifetime, check out our helpful maintenance tips below.

Hydraulic Care

Your dump trailer’s hydraulic system should be inspected regularly in order to catch small problems before they become serious repairs. Don’t forget to also check, refill, and occasionally flush your dump trailer automatic transmission fluid when completing your inspection. If you notice a leak near your hydraulic system, we recommend first giving your battery a quick examination to see if a lack of charge could be the cause before heading to your nearest repair center.

Battery Care

Much like a car battery, your dump trailer’s battery will need to be recharged and cleaned every few months or so to keep your model working properly. Every 6 months or so be sure to check your battery’s charge, and use a slurry of baking soda and water to remove any acid or corrosion from your battery’s poles.

Body Care

Dump trailers tend to accumulate a lot of muck and grime. To ensure this doesn’t result in rust or corrosion on your trailer, be sure to give your model a thorough deep clean every 6 to 12 months—depending on how dirty your dump trailer is. Remember to clean both the inside and underside of your dump trailer, and we recommend using a pressure washer if one is available.
